Brock Mansion

In 1812, Evan and Mary Brock settled in Madison County. Evan Brock Jr. was born on February 20, 1823. Evan Jr. moved to Fayette County after he married Susannah Griffith. He purchased a large tract of land and built a log cabin. The property was heavily wooded, so he began clearing out the land so it could be farmed. Evan and Susannah eventually had 13 children, thus outgrowing the small log cabin he built. Evan then had this huge brick house built in the 1860's. Their children learned how to work hard early in life. They would help Evan farm the land and assist with the typical chores. Evan's son, Orville, took over the farm when he passed away on February 15, 1885. The Brock Farm was considered one of the nicest in Paint Township. The Brock's were prosperous farmers.
