This tunnel was built around 1882 by the Toledo, Cincinnati, & St. Louis Railroad. In 1891, the Cincinnati, Hamilton, & Dayton Railroad took control of the line. The tunnel was repaired and lined with concrete in 1916. For some reason, the southern section and portal didn't get the treatment. The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad purchased the line in June, 1917. The tracks were abandoned that same year, after the takeover.
