Daniel Chrisman Jr. was born on July 6, 1811. He was reared in strict morality and sobriety, which characterized his life. Being the youngest child, he was as the apple of his father's eye. They exacted a promise that Jr. would remain upon the farm with him. Daniel married Eliza A. Fudge on January 31, 1839. They had 3 children: Elizabeth, Mary Catharine, and an infant son that died 4 days after birth. |

In 1847, Chrisman Sr. voluntarily released his son from his promise to remain on the home place, believing that his son's would be better off on his 160 acre farm in Washington township. Widow Fall Farm had on it a log cabin and a log barn, which at that time were considered very nice buildings. Here he continued to reside until the railroad was built put through his land. In 1856, he had a fine brick house built on the Richmond pike. In that house there is still a room which bears the sacred name of "father's room," in which the old man died on February 12, 1861. Daniel Chrisman Jr. was a very energetic and successful farmer. He never made a specialty of stock raising, but he raised nothing but the best. His farm was one of the most productive in Preble County. In 1872, he purchased the adjoining 160 acre Meroney Farm. He gave his eldest daughter 129 acres of the Meroney Farm. In 1876, he purchased 60 acres of land near Camden. I've seen the last name of the family was spelled Christman and Chrisman. Either way, they are the same family. |

Everett S. Sherman was born in 1831 in Delaware County, Ohio. He learned the bridge building trade from his family. In 1867, Sherman got his first bridge building contract. His bridges used the Childs Truss, which was invented by Horace Childs. He chose that truss because the patent had expired, which meant that no royalties had to be paid. He revived the outdated Childs Truss by improving the design. Sherman's bridges are believed to be the only Child Truss Bridges ever built in the United States. Sherman later moved to Eaton, Ohio and opened a bridge yard. He built numerous bridges throughout Preble County during his career. Everett S. Sherman died on July 16, 1897 at 66 years of age. |
