Construction of the Columbus Feeder began on April 20, 1827. It took 4 years to complete the short canal. The Columbus Feeder connected the capital city to the Ohio & Erie Canal in Lockbourne. It was nearly 12 miles long with 2 lift locks and 2 guard locks. The first mile of the canal was constructed by inmates at the Ohio State Penitentiary. |
