This gristmill was built in 1845 by Charles Giles. The natural waterfall on Raccoon Creek provided an ideal location for a mill. Giles' adopted son, Aaron David, took over the milling operations after he retired. Aaron added a sawmill to the property, but it was destroyed in the 1913 Flood. In 1890, he replaced the waterwheel with a turbine, which increased the power. Alfred Massie purchased the mill in 1899. The Massie Family operated it up until 1937, when a flood destroyed the dam and turbine. Cora Mill was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. |
