Greendale Brick Plant

The Greendale Brick Plant was built in 1904 by the Hocking Valley Products Company. Niles Kachelmacher owned the plant and several clay mines in the area. The Kachelmacher Mines supplied all of the clay to the plant. The plant prospered, producing numerous bricks and blocks, including the well-known Greendale Rug Brick, up until 1929, when the operation ceased.

The following is from an old company ad. "Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for. That a time is to come when those bricks will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, see! This our fathers did for us."
