Grimms Tunnel

This tunnel was constructed in 1933 by the Pittsburgh, Lisbon & Western Railroad. The short line connected Lisbon to Pittsburgh. I believe this section was part of the Smith's Ferry Branch. The tracks were removed in 1995. The small village of Grimms Bridge was located nearby.

Grimms Bridge was a thriving village in the early 1800's. In 1805-1806, John Coulter, Jacob Bowman, and John Beaver built a stone paper mill along Little Beaver Creek. It was the first paper mill in Ohio and the first paper mill west of the Alleganies. The mill prospered, producing rag paper, up until the early 1830's.
