I believe the Hocking County Infirmary was built around 1870. This institute was used to treat and house the poor, elderly, sick, and mentally ill people in the county. Those who were able to work, were required to on the farm. Several of the outbuildings and barns still remain today. The water supply came from a natural spring on the property. In 1880, a children's home was built on the property. Tuberculosis patients were treated here during the outbreak in the 1920's.
