Abraham Ream was born in Reamstown, Pennsylvania in 1746. In 1798, Abraham Ream moved to this area. He was among the earliest settlers and one of the largest land owners in Berne Township. Abraham fought in the Revolutionary War. In 1804, Abraham built a mill on the Hock-Hocking River. The small village of Reams Mill grew up around the mill. The Ream Family were strong and fearless people. They were brave and daring hunters. They killed 18 bears, 27 deer, and numerous wolves, wildcats, and panthers during their first winter in Ohio. Abasalom Ream once persued a large panther in Log Hollow and captured it by tying it's legs together. They often hunted with the local Indians. |
