This impressive Italianate building was designed by T.R. Tinsley. His company, Tinsley & Co., took on the responsibility of constructed a new infirmary. Construction began in 1875, and due to major setbacks, the progress was delayed. Tinsley decided to contract the J. Henegan Co. to help finish the job. Three years, eighty thousand dollars, and over one million bricks later, it was complete. In the late 1800's, this place was ranked as one of the largest buildings in the country. The county engineers shut it down in 1953 because it was deemed structurally unsafe. The Mt. Vernon Bible College purchased it in 1957. They repaired the building and operated here until the 1980's. This building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
