Lutz House

In 1802, Samuel Lutz traveled by wagon from Pennsylvania to Ohio. Samuel was a pioneer and one the most promint citizens of Salt Creek Township in Pickaway County. He surveyed the first public road in Pickaway County and laid out McArthur in Vinton County. Samuel fought in the War of 1812 in Colonel James Renick's mounted militia. He served many years as the Justice of the Peace and was elected 4 times to the House of Representatives. His true love was farming and he took great pride in being a farmer. He was an honest man. When called as a witness in court, the judge said "Mr. Lutz need not be sworn in, his word is sufficient". Samuel lived to 101 and 1/2 years of age.

Samuel Lutz

I believe this house was built for Byron Lutz. Byron was born in 1846. He was the son of Samuel G. Lutz and grandson of Samuel Lutz, who is mentioned above. Byron was a prominent and successful farmer. He represented Ross County twice at the General Assembly. Byron served 3 years in Company K of the 89th Ohio Voluntary Infantry during the Civil War.
