Aetna Mills Lock # 11

Artist: Don Getz

The Aetna Mills was located near this canal lock. The mill replaced the Aetna Foundry, which burned down twice. The large gristmill was powered by water from the Cascade Race. Philo Chamberlin purchased the mill in 1862. He eventually sold it to McVeil & Baldwin. They converted the mill to steam power and began turning out 200 barrels a day.
