Cascade Mills Lock # 14

Ferdinand Schumacher's Cascade Mills was located near this canal lock. Schumacher purchased the mill in 1868 and invested a small fortune into it. He purchased the best machinery available at the time. The millstones were turned by an iron overshot waterwheel that measured 36 feet in diameter and weighed 37 tons. The Cascade Race supplied the water. Schumacher's mill was considered one of the finest in the state.
