Lock # 28

A typical canal lock could only raise or lower a canal boat about 9 feet. Deep Lock's 17 foot lift was the highest of any on the entire Ohio and Erie Canal. Massive amounts of sandstone were shipped down the canal from the nearby Deep Lock Quarry.
