A woolen mill was built near this canal lock by S. Perkins, J.D. Commins, Jacob Allen, and Jesse Allen. In 1853, the mill was converted to a flouring mill by Jacob Allen, Jesse Allen, and J.D. Commins. The mill contained first class machinery, which was capable of producing 225 barrels of quality flour a day.
