The small village of Three Locks was born when the Ohio & Erie Canal passed through the area. The village was named after the triple locks, which are located back to back. The locks were named after the Tomlinson Family. Jesse Tomlinson was one of the early settlers in Franklin Township. His son's, Richard and Thomas, opened the first grocery store in Three Locks. Thomas served as the first lock tender as well.
