In 1844, Gydion Clippinger and Solin Beatly built a grist/flour mill near this canal lock. A warehouse was located next to the mill. Noah Snider eventually purchased the mill. When John Smeck purchased the mill he installed a steam engine to help power the waterwheel. After constantly losing money, the mill mysteriously caught on fire and burned to the ground. The locals suspected that Smeck started the fire. |
