John Wells built a grist/flour mill near this canal lock. A millrace channeled water from the canal towards the mill, where it was used to turn a waterwheel. Apparently, this area was as an excellent fishing spot back in the canal days. |

The Neff & Hummell Brick and Tile Yard was located a short distance away from this canal lock. The clay was fired in old fashioned square kilns. A lime kiln was also located on the property. The canal was the primary mode of transportation for the goods. A basin allowed the canal boats to line up for loading. |
