Pearce House

Samuel T. Pearce was born in Kentucky on June 24, 1798. He was the son of Joseph and Martha Pearce. Martha died during Samuel's birth. Samuel eventually settled in Ohio. In 1812, he moved to Chillicothe and began working as an apprentice in the saddle trade. He was married to Elizabeth McDonald in 1825. They had 10 children together, 5 of which died early in life. In 1831, Samuel moved to London and opened up a harness shop. He purchased 335 acres of land in Jefferson Township about 4 years later and resided there. Elizabeth died in 1848 and he remarried 2 years later to Mary Durflinger. Samuel moved back to London in 1880. Samuel Pearce was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for 67 years. He was considered the oldest member of that particular denomination in Madison County.

This house was built in 1911 for the descendants of Samuel T. Pearce. This place sits on the original 335 acre Pearce Farm.
