I believe this house was built in the 1870's for Nicholas Ratz. Nicholas Ratz was born in Switzerland on November 6, 1833. He learned how to farm in Switzerland. In 1855, he made the voyage to the United States and settled in Upper Sandusky. He purchased 80 acres of land in the Fall of 1870. He worked to improve his farm and had a fine barn built on the property. His marriage to Magdalen Mitsch in 1862 resulted in two children. The Ratz Family were highly respected in this area.
