Originally, this covered bridge spanned Wolf Creek in Rosseau. Rosseau was founded in 1823 by Joshua Davis. Davis operated a tannery and a tobbaco warehouse in the village. The warehouse did extensive business, which helped the small village grow. Davis later moved to Malta after the tobacco industry began to decline. Rosseau faded away after the main industry was gone and Davis left.
