This mill site was established in the 1840's by Jacob Armentrout. In 1850, David J. Rummel purchased the property and built this sawmill. He also built a dam across Clear Fork and a thousand foot long millrace. Originally, this mill was powered by an eight foot overshot waterwheel. David replaced the waterwheel with two turbines in the 1880's. The mill was later used to process grain as-well. David's son, O.B. Rummel, took over the operation after his death. In 1909, the Stetzel Family purchased the mill. They operated it up until 1918. Rummel's Mill was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. |
