This canal lock was so poorly constructed that it had to be lined with wood to hold water. Gaston's Mill was built in 1837 by Samuel Conkle. In 1849, James Gaston Purchased the property and mill. James sold the mill to Philander Gaston 10 years later. Philander operated the mill longer than anyone else. The Sandy & Beaver Canal provided an easy mode of transportation for the goods. |
