Lock # 42

The small village of Sprucevale was founded around 1835 by the Hambleton Brothers: Charles, James, Isaac, and Benjamin. The village contained a flax seed oil mill, sawmill, woolen mill, and a gristmill. The Sandy & Beaver Canal provided an easy mode of transportation for the goods, which helped the village prosper. It quickly faded away after the canal was abandoned.
