Lock # 24

Elson's Mill was built in 1834 by Richard Elson. Water from the Sandy & Beaver Canal helped keep the mill pond full. The water was then used to turn the waterwheel that was located on the side. The easy mode of transportation that the canal provided helped the flour mill prosper. Richard's son, Augustus R. Elson, took over the operation in 1881. The mill was converted to electric power around 1940. Today, it's used as a feed mill.
