Squire's Castle was built in the 1890's by Standard Oil co-founder, Feargus B. Squire. His original plan was to build a large country home on the 525 acres of land that he owned. It was to be called the River Farm Estate. Mr. Squire eventually abandoned his plans and the larger home was never built. This structure was supposed to be the gatekeeper's lodge. Mr. Squire used the lodge in the early 1900's as a weekend retreat. In 1922, he decided to sell the property. The Cleveland Metro Parks acquired it in 1925.
