In 1825, Amos and Mary Underwood moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio with their six children. The couple had five more children here in Ohio, including William. William Underwood was born on June 5, 1834 in Clinton County. He was the next to last born out of his father's 11 children. William and his wife Catherine reared a family of eight children. In 1863, he purchased a large tract of land and built this house. He lived out the rest of his life here, farming his land.
