Washington Furnace



This iron furnace was constructed in 1851 by John Campbell, with John Peters supervising the construction. Originally, it was owned by a group of men, including: John Campbell, John Peters, Isaac Peters, Samuel McConnnel, W.M. Bowles, and Thomas McGovney.

This iron furnace was later owned by the J. Peters & Company. John Peters was the founder and president of the company, with William Colvin as manager. In 1877, this iron furnace was converted to run on bituminous coal. By 1882, the Union Iron Company had taken over the operation.
