The Waugh Brothers, Joseph and Leaman, were among the earliest settlers in Buckskin Township. Around 1800, they moved to this area and purchased large farms. In 1810, one of the first Methodist churches in the township was organized at Joseph's house. A log cabin was built for the services shortly after the organization, which was replaced by a wood-frame church. This particular church was built in 1878-1879 on Joseph Waugh's Farm. It replaced the wood-frame church. "The congregation was strong and prosperous".
